BGC vs Makati: where to stay in Manila

Walkability
BGC wins outright. Wide sidewalks, short blocks, and a tight grid make it the most pedestrian-friendly area in Metro Manila — you can spend a week here without ever needing a car. Makati is walkable around Greenbelt, Salcedo, and Legazpi Villages, but crossing between districts often means hailing a Grab.
Dining & cafés
Both are world-class. BGC leans modern and international — think Uptown Mall, Bonifacio High Street, and a strong specialty coffee scene. Makati has Poblacion (the city's best small-plate and cocktail neighborhood), Salcedo Saturday Market, and Greenbelt's classic restaurant strip. If "find dinner without thinking" matters, BGC; if "discover something new every night," Makati.
Nightlife
Makati's Poblacion is the clear winner for bars, rooftops, and late-night food. BGC nightlife is more polished and bar-led, concentrated around The Fort Strip and High Street — quieter overall, which suits families.
Safety
Both are among the safest neighborhoods in Metro Manila, with private security, well-lit streets, and a strong daytime and nighttime foot presence. Standard travel awareness applies in both.
Getting around
Makati sits on the MRT line (Ayala station) and is closer to the airport via Skyway. BGC has no MRT station yet — Grab and the BGC Bus are the way around. For a Manila-wide itinerary (Intramuros, Binondo, Cultural Center), Makati is the more central base.
